The UN Funken Carnival Association (Karnevalsgesellschaft UN Funken e.V.) was founded on 13th January 2017 and was established with the purpose of contributing to the maintenance and further development of the carnival custom and its cultural heritage in Bonn through participation in carnival for UN employees, their families as well as employees, organisations, institutions and individuals, closely connected with the UN and sustainable development. We are a proud member of the Festausschuss Bonner Karneval.
Designated UNiversa Skirmate (2025-2026)

We are proud to present UNiversa Skirmante (Tamelyte) for the carnival session 2025/2026.
Skirmante is originally from Lithuania, but she has called Germany home for over 20 years. She has lived in 6 countries and speaks 4 languages and now works in Bonn with United Nations Industrial Development Organization.
She is excited to celebrate carnival under the Festausschuss Bonner Karneval Motto of “200 years of Bonn Carnival – yesterday, today and tomorrow“ as she believes that “In today’s global world it is not easy to keep old local traditions alive, we must cherish carnival as a precious tradition and take care of it today so it can still exist in the future. During this session I will share the message that we must be active today to save freedom and peace as these values are essential for future free societies”.

#UNFunken4SDGs

Sustainability is in the hearts of the UN Funken members. Each year the UN Funken select a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and the members donate towards offsetting the unavoidable emissions of the Rosenmontag parade to make it climate neutral. Read more on our Sustainability page to find out about some of the actions the UN Funken take to reduce their carnival footprint and follow us on social media to see how we make our journey more sustainable.
